Publishing a book can look complicated from the outside: manuscript preparation, trim size, interior layout, cover design, print specifications, ebook formatting and publishing-platform requirements can all seem to arrive at once. You do not need to solve everything before you contact us. This roadmap shows how a manuscript moves from a working file to professionally prepared files ready for print, ebook publication or self-publishing platforms.
Your Book Publishing Roadmap
- Prepare a clean manuscript. Keep the text, chapters, headings and real emphasis clear; let the finished book handle the visual design. If you are unsure what to keep or remove, start with our manuscript preparation guide. Before sending the file, it is also worth checking for common Word formatting mistakes such as manual line breaks, spaces and tabs used for positioning.
- Gather the best original images. Images may stay in Word as placement references, but photographs, illustrations, charts and other print-critical artwork should also be supplied as separate original files whenever possible. See our guide to images in Word versus original files.
- Think about the editions you want to publish. Paperback, hardcover and ebook editions can have different production requirements. If you do not yet know the trim size, paper, binding or exact file specifications, that is fine — those decisions can be made once the project is clear.
- Protect confidential material if you need to. If you would prefer an agreement in place before sharing the manuscript, you can download our Non-Disclosure Agreement and send it to us for signing.
- Tell us about your book. Use the BrainON contact form to describe the project, the kind of book you are creating, the services you think you need and where you plan to publish. Attach the manuscript if it is ready; if it is not, a clear description is enough to begin the conversation.

- We review the files and confirm the production plan. We look at the manuscript, images, intended editions and publishing requirements, then confirm what the project needs, what is included, the final price and the practical next steps. - Book design and production begin. Depending on the agreed scope, this can include professional interior layout, book cover design, ebook formatting, editing, proofreading, translation, printer coordination or self-publishing support. The work is shaped around your book rather than pushed through a generic template. You can explore books we have designed and prepared for publication to see how different projects are handled.
- You review the proof. We send the prepared book for your review so you can check the pages, wording, images and design decisions in context. You send your corrections and comments, and we make the agreed revisions before the files are finalized. - We prepare the final print-ready files. After approval, the print edition is prepared to the specifications required by the chosen printer or publishing platform, including the technical details that apply to the interior and cover.
- We prepare the ebook edition when it is part of the project. Ebook formatting is handled as its own publishing edition, with files prepared and checked for the retailer or platform requirements agreed for your project.
- Your book is ready for publication. You receive the professionally prepared files included in your project.
